Amazon Web Services (AWS) has introduced the Ocelot quantum computing chip, designed to enhance error correction and accelerate the development of fault-tolerant quantum computers. Unlike traditional quantum chips, Ocelot uses "cat qubits," which inherently reduce certain types of errors, potentially lowering the cost of quantum error correction by 90%. The chip consists of two stacked silicon microchips with superconducting components, improving stability and scalability. This move places AWS alongside Google and Microsoft in the competitive quantum computing race, with each company pursuing different approaches to achieving quantum supremacy.
